CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR POST-SECONDARY GRADUATES FOR SPRING 2008 by Marlene G. Head

Opaskwayak Cree Nation is very proud of the successful achievements of our graduating post-secondary students for the spring of 2007. This year, so far, we had 19 graduates. We congratulate the following:

Mary Azure Laubmann - graduated with her Masters in Social Work from the University of Manitoba.

Mary’s words: “This part of my journey has been reached and now other doors of opportunity have been opened for me to pursue!

But, first things first! I want to “Thank” the Opaskwayak Cree Nation Band, OEA, Marlene G. Head, Bruce Unfried, my faculty advisor and Sarah Cavanagh, my husband Karl, my family and close friends for their continuous support during my undergraduate and graduate studies. Without these sincere and caring gestures, I would have not been able to finish as quickly as I did.

What are my plans for the future? Currently I am in the process of pursuing a business venture in the therapeutic and counselling field. Keep your eyes and ears open for Copper Thunderbird Counselling Services. This is the business name I have been gifted with.

I’ve already been offered various job opportunities but at this point in time “because”, I can now pick and choose where I want to plant my roots and really get to enjoy the personal and professional developments as they happen, I will surely bathe in the richness and rewards of this unforgettable journey!

Once again, Thank You all - and more importantly, I will never forget where I came from and when I am asked I will reply with much pride and pleasure by saying “why” Opaskwayak Cree Nation, of course!!!

Ekosanik, Mistahik Niwenanaskomon!
