Employment & Training

  • Employment & Training Program mandateThe mandate of the Opaskwayak Educational Services Inc. Employment & Training (OES E & T) program is to assist in the:
    1. Development of skilled OCN work force
    2. Training Initiatives by providing resources to obtain higher education or training.
    3. Basic premise development individuals to be empowered to not only themselves, but their families and community.
    4. Resources to gain work or training.
    5. The community and its members will benefit not only educationally and economically, but will also lead to a healthier and happier community.

OES Employment & Training Programs

Job Placement/Wage Subsidy Program:

  • Provides assistance to eligible OCN members to enhance their;

    • Skills and to assist members to gain sustainable employment through direct work experience at job placement/wage subsidy sites.
    • Financial assistance through wage subsidies is available to employers to offset costs associated with recruiting, training and hiring of new employees.
    • We offer contracts with organizations and businesses within the communities of OCN & The Pas.

Special Clothing Program:

The special clothing program/equipment/safety gear in order to start employment, and has to be accessed. Requirements to access this program are:

Letter from employer on company letterhead stating your employment with a start date and contact information.

Employment Travel Assistance Program:

The employment travel assistance program provides funding to its membership in order to travel to their new job outside of the vicinity of their residence and has to be assessed.

Requirements to access this program are:
Letter from employer on company letterhead stating your employment with a start date and contact information.

Short Course Assistance Program

The short course assistance program provide financial assistance to eligible OCN members to participate in specific training;

  • First Aid & CPR
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
  • System (WHMIS)
  • Boat Safety
  • Firearms Safety Course
  • Security Officer Training
  • Chainsaw Safety Training
  • Brush Saw Safety Training
  • Intro to Computers.
  • Digital Gaming Operator
  • In Car Training

Special Interest programs

Sponsorship Program:
Provides financial assistance to eligible OCN members towards;

  • The cost of their education for programs 2 years and less. Included is a training allowance for the duration of their program. Attendance and grades are monitored on a monthly basis.
  • Deadline to submit sponsorship applications is May 31 of any given year. Sponsorship packages are available at OES E & T  

Apprenticeship Program:

  1. Provides financial assistance to eligible OCN members towards
  2. The cost of the apprenticeship training program OES E & T can assist with registration costs, can provide financial assistance to employers looking to pick up Band members and indenture them.
  3. Provides financial assistance for their Technical Training.
